In this exact configuration, only two examples of the Shell 98 will ever exist.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe Shell 98 features an Explorer-inspired case and dial, paired with a heavily aged dial texture and hand-aged hands that give the watch the appearance of a well-worn vintage timepiece.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003ePrinted at the bottom of the dial is KISHI KAISEI (起死回生), an old Japanese expression that literally means “to rise from death and return to life.” It is used to describe a dramatic turnaround—overcoming great hardship and finding success after facing what once seemed like a hopeless situation.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThat idea is reflected throughout the Shell 98. Its distressed case, aged dial, and worn appearance symbolize a life shaped by challenges rather than perfection. Every scratch, mark, and sign of wear represents obstacles overcome, making the watch a tribute to resilience, perseverance, and the strength to move forward despite adversity.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe Shell 98 measures 36mm. Although its case shape is Explorer-inspired, it has always reminded me of a turtle shell, hence the name “Shell.” The “98” comes from the number I originally used to represent 1998 in the first reel in which the watch appeared.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eEach vintage-inspired Shiro Kara timepiece is handcrafted individually, one at a time, and the watch shown is the exact piece its owner will receive. While the same design may be commissioned again, no two watches will ever develop the same character. Due to the nature of my hand-aging techniques, every patina develops uniquely throughout the process, giving each watch its own personality and story.
