The Captain model line from the Under the Grandline collection holds a special place in the history of Shiro Kara Watch Co. While it wasn't the very first watch I ever created, it was the first model released to the public, making it the watch that officially introduced Shiro Kara to the world. In fact, it was the third watch design ever created by the brand, which is why it continues to mean so much to me.

The original Captain was produced in a limited run of just seven pieces. Once they were gone, the model was retired and would no longer be available. Over the years, many people asked if it would ever return, but the answer was always the same... No.

As interest continued to grow, I decided not to recreate the original, but instead to build upon its legacy. The goal was to honor the original Captain and its limited production while still accommodating the demand for its design DNA. The result is the Captain Date—a subtle evolution of the original Captain that makes a remarkable difference. By adding the practicality of a date complication, it preserves the spirit of the original while creating a timeless and versatile timepiece.

This specific watch was commissioned by Andreas P. and features a custom caseback engraving requested by its owner. It also has a twin with the same engraving design, personalized with a different name. Both watches were commissioned as commemorative timepieces celebrating a business partnership, and the Captain Date was a fitting choice for the occasion.

I create these vintage-inspired pieces by hand, one at a time, and the watch shown is the exact timepiece its new owner will receive. While this design can be commissioned again, every watch develops its own unique character through the hand-aging process. Because every Shiro Kara Vintage timepiece is individually handcrafted, no two will ever age in exactly the same way. Each patina is unique, making every piece truly one of a kind.
