Commissioned Piece: Tokyo Mule V1 – Season 1

This is the second-to-last Shiro Kara Vintage (SKV) Tokyo Mule of Season 1, as the fifth and final unit will remain in my personal collection. With that, only five examples featuring this specific logo and text layout will ever be produced.

(The Tokyo Mule will return in Season 2, retaining the same applied 3-6-9 dial layout while featuring an updated logo and text configuration.)

With that being said... do some things get better with age?

Drawing inspiration from the Rlx 5513 of the 1960s while incorporating design cues from the 1970s, this timepiece brings together elements from two iconic decades in a way that feels both familiar and original. A domed crystal completes the look, producing the subtle distortion and warmth that have become hallmarks of vintage watches.

The dial is where the design takes its own direction. Applied 3-6-9 hour markers, typically found on Explorer-style watches, are combined with the layout of a classic Sub-style diver. It's an uncommon pairing that remains balanced, giving the watch a character of its own while staying true to the spirit of traditional tool watches.

Every case, bracelet, and dial is individually aged by hand using techniques developed through years of experimentation. While this particular piece features a clean case and bracelet, other Tokyo Mule variants are finished with hand-aged cases and bracelets. The faded surfaces, softened edges, and worn details are intentionally created to give each watch the appearance of one that has naturally evolved over decades. Since every piece is finished by hand, no two watches are exactly alike.

The result is a timepiece that captures the charm of a well-preserved vintage watch without attempting to copy one directly—a unique interpretation shaped by time, craftsmanship, and attention to detail.
